Dental health, also called oral health, is about the health of our teeth, gums, tongue, mouth, and throat. Dental health may seem like a separate form of health but the health of our mouth and especially our teeth can show how healthy the rest of our body is.
Oral health problems can cause poor health in other body parts. By practicing good oral health habits like brushing twice a day, flossing, regular cleanings, and eating less sugary foods, people can reduce their chances of tooth decay and gum disease. Many Americans suffer from some oral-health-related illness. At least 80% of Americans have had at least one cavity in their lifetime and on average, $113 billion dollars are spent on dental care per year.
